Custom PC Builds for Gaming, Work and Everyday Use
Tell Dave what you need the computer to do and your budget, and he will help work out a sensible specification around that. CWC Computers builds personal, made-to-order systems from Chard, Somerset.
You might need a gaming PC, an office computer, a workstation, a quiet home PC or a compact system for limited desk space. Dave starts by asking how the machine will actually be used before producing a parts list. The aim is to build the right computer for the job, rather than simply choosing parts to spend the whole budget.
CWC Computers is based in Chard, Somerset. Custom-build customers may travel further for a personal service rather than using an online PC configurator.

Sensible parts and transparent choices
Parts are priced transparently, and Dave looks for sensible prices rather than adding unnecessary margin to the build. The proposed components and the reasons for choosing them should be clear before anything is ordered.
- Recognised, dependable brands are preferred for power supplies, RAM and SSDs.
- Unknown or no-name parts are not chosen simply to reduce the headline cost.
- Customers may supply their own compatible parts.
- Suitable existing components may be reused where Dave believes they are still worthwhile.
- Reusing good parts can help avoid unnecessary e-waste.
- Used components may have a shorter remaining lifespan than new ones.

How the custom-build process works

Built, tested and prepared for handover
Testing is part of the build process, not an afterthought.
- Stress testing.
- General stability checks.
- Temperature rise and fall checks.
- Cooling behaviour checked.
- Windows updates installed where required.
- Hardware drivers installed before handover.
- BIOS updates carried out where appropriate or necessary.
Windows, files and peripherals
Windows can be supplied and installed where required. CWC can transfer personal files from an old PC, including documents, photographs, music and videos. Programs requiring licence keys can only be reinstalled where the customer can provide the appropriate licence or key. Email configuration is normally left to the customer because it involves private passwords and account access.
The normal custom-build quote is primarily for the PC itself. If required, CWC can also quote for monitors, keyboards, mice and other peripherals.
Collection and setup
Collection from CWC in Chard is the preferred handover method. Home or business setup may be arranged when availability allows and is charged at CWC’s normal hourly rate. If an old computer is no longer required, CWC can remove or destroy remaining personal data and arrange responsible recycling where appropriate.
Custom PC building across the wider South West
Computer repair is generally a tighter local service-area service. Custom PC building is different because customers may be willing to travel further for a computer specified and built around their requirements.
CWC Computers is based in Chard, Somerset, with a wider potential customer catchment across Somerset, Dorset and the South West.
Previous custom-build customers have travelled from places including Bridport, Portishead, Minehead and Exeter. These are genuine examples of customers travelling further for a specialist custom build. They are not separate service areas, branches or CWC premises.
Tell Dave what you need the PC to do
You do not need to know which processor, graphics card or power supply you need before getting in touch. Tell Dave what you want to use the computer for, which games or software matter to you, your approximate budget, whether size, noise or appearance is important, and whether you have parts you would like considered.
Frequently asked questions
How much does the initial custom PC discussion cost?
Initial discussion and specification planning are free.
Do I need to know which parts I want?
No. Dave will ask what you need the PC to do and recommend a suitable specification based on your intended use and budget.
Can I supply my own parts?
Yes, provided the parts are compatible with the agreed build.
Can old parts be reused?
Sometimes. Existing components may be reused where Dave believes they are still worthwhile. Used parts may have a shorter remaining lifespan than new components.
Can you install Windows?
Windows can be supplied and installed where required. Appropriate updates and hardware drivers are installed before handover.
Can you transfer files from my old computer?
CWC can transfer personal files such as documents, photographs, music and videos. Programs requiring licence keys can only be reinstalled when the appropriate licence or key is available.
How long does a custom PC build take?
Once all components have arrived, assembly normally takes around one day, followed by a further one to two days for testing and stability checks. The overall timescale depends partly on component availability.
How is payment handled?
For builds over £500, CWC generally asks for a 50% deposit before ordering the agreed components.
Can you set up the computer at my home or business?
Collection from CWC in Chard is the preferred handover method. Home or business setup may be arranged when availability allows and is charged at CWC’s normal hourly rate.
Do you build PCs for customers outside Chard?
Yes, customers may travel from further away for a specialist made-to-order build. CWC is based in Chard, Somerset and does not have branches or premises in other towns.
